Biogas heating-concept

Dorset has developed a heating-concept for biogas plants. The residual heat from the biogas plant can be utilized effectively during the entire year, if a Dorset drying system is in place.

The drying equipment is designed to utilize residual heat at a low cost. With a Biogas installation the dryer replaces the cooler from the CHP. With 500 kW two ventilators of 2,2 kW are used which barely raises the amount of electricity. When drying the sewage sludge the energy use can be reduced by 90% in contrast to the conventional dryers. The air velocity through the product is very low to prevent dust formation. When drying manure or substrate from biogas plants, cleaning the air is absolutely necessary.

The benefits at a glance:

  • By using a drying system the residual heat can be utilized the entire year.
  • Dorset dryers have a low power consumption (+ / - 3% of the energy produced at the biogas plant).
  • Separation of manure is not necessary because of the recirculation of the product (>8% ds).
  • Less storage of digestate is required
  • Reduced disposal costs of the digestate
  • Low dust formation due to low air velocity
